In the Darkened Room

Side by side in the darkened room,
strain sight seeking sweet smile.
Hold her close to feel her love
and also warm her for a while.
Outside the sun could sing,
cars croon or parrots purr
and I’d still sooner sit here
in the darkened room with her.

Side by side in the darkened room
lips fumble, finally find each other.
My hands explore, discover, adore
all of my most extraordinary lover.
Outside creative cows could fly
or dotty dalmatians disco dance.
Still I’d sooner stay with her
in this loving, tender trance.

If I could I would help her heal,
would wish to take her hurt away.
We would wander wild in jungles
to lands where sun worshippers pray.
Side by side in the darkened room,
she never asks after a miracle cure.
It is enough to know I love her
and everyday I love her more.

  1. This is a repost of a poem I added to my site a while ago but back then I made the mistake of adding it at the bottom of a long author’s note. Since then I have learned that many people see big walls of text and run away screaming, which contributed towards the poem being lost.

The reason I added the author’s note originally was to add some context to the poem, as it relates to various aspects of my fiancee’s condition: M.E (sensitive to light, sensitive to cold e.t.c) and I was concerned that the poem may not be able to stand up on its own without that long preamble. The reason I’ve reposted it is to see if I was wrong and whether it speaks for itself. Time will tell.

    1. That’s very kind of you. Thank you. 🙂 If you find yourself liking more of them, I’d appreciate it if you were willing to Follow my site. I recommend checking out the Top 10 chart on my home page.

    1. Thank you for your feedback- glad you like it. Writing poems featuring aspects of my fiancée Phoebe’s M.E condition can be tricky, as I don’t want them to come across as either acting like a martyr or begging for sympathy. M.E is a complicated & oft misunderstood condition though, so I do think it’s important to try & write bits about it sometimes.

Hopefully my love for Phoebe always comes across when I write about her. M.E is just one small aspect of who she is. Phoebe is an amazing person & I feel lucky to be with her. Whilst I offer her physical support, she offers me emotional support. We’re a team. She’s my best friend, my fantasy & the love of my life rolled into one.

Regarding the Follow, I thought you’d followed me too. That’s an odd one. Hopefully it works this time. Thank you for trying again.
